Bangalore: The overseas players haven't pulled their weight. Kevin Pietersen has scored 43 runs in four innings while Jesse Ryder and Ross Taylor have 32 and 36 respectively from three. Robin Uthappa has been poor at the top of the order as well with 35 runs in four innings at a strike-rate of only 71.

Delhi: Gambhir is the only top-order batsman from Delhi who hasn't got going. Sehwag plundered Punjab in a rain-curtailed innings while Dilshan rescued Delhi after the loss of two quick wickets with a feisty half-century against Chennai. The innings of the tournament, however, was de Villiers' 105 off 54 balls in his first innings of the IPL.

Bangalore Royal Challengers

vs

Delhi Daredevils
Port Elizabeth, 26 April 2009

Match Begins 16:00 IST | 12:30 SA | 10:30 GMT

A campaign that began so brightly with a 92-run victory for Bangalore Royal Challengers has gone into freefall. Since that victory against Rajasthan Royals, Bangalore have suffered three consecutive defeats and languish in the bottom half of the league. In order to end the losing streak in Port Elizabeth, Bangalore will have upset the Delhi Daredevils, considered by many to be favourites for the title.

Bangalore's worries stem from a top order that has failed to make use of the Powerplay overs by losing too many wickets. Their best performance during the first six overs was 49 for 3 against Kings XI Punjab on Friday. They are facing a problem similar to the one in the inaugural season where the overseas players failed to make a significant contribution. Their best batsman has been Rahul Dravid, with 144 runs at an average of 36, but he's begun most of his innings with Bangalore already in deep trouble.

Bangalore's bowlers haven't been in top form either - they've managed to take only 20 wickets in four games, 11 in the last three - and they are up against perhaps the most in-form batting line-up of the tournament. Delhi suffered a crippling blow against Chennai Super Kings, losing both Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir cheaply, and few would have expected their overseas batsmen, AB de Villiers and Tillakaratne Dilshan, to perform the way they did. They batted with methodical aggression and have reduced the dependency on Sehwag for posting huge scores.

Pakistan vs Australia 1st Odi From Dubai

ust days after another sad chapter pushed them further onto the margins of the cricket world, Pakistan glimpse a rare opportunity to make a significant on-field statement. They take on Australia in a five-match ODI series followed by two Twenty20 internationals in Dubai and Abu Dhabi from Wednesday, a contest Younis Khan believes offers Pakistan the chance to begin another era on a brighter note.

As an indication of just how much Pakistan have faded away off the field in recent years - and Australia's reluctance to tour Pakistan - Wednesday's game will be the first ODI between the two sides since February 2005. In fact, the two sides have only met once in any format since then: at the World Twenty20 in September 2007, when Pakistan trumped them on the way to the final.

Much has changed since then - four players from each side remain - not least the fortunes of both sides, but Younis believed that good performances here may well lead to a repeat of Pakistan's last successful era, which began around the time the two sides last met.

"This is a very big series for several reasons," Younis told Cricinfo. "If we play well - not necessarily win - but play well then we can become like Inzi and Bob Woolmer's sides in 2005 and 2006," he said. "If we perform well - and win - then people will have to take notice because it is Australia. I want to see good moments…after the series I want to be able to look back and pinpoint 7-10 moments where we did really well, with a bowling spell, a bit of fielding, some batting. That will be an achievement."

Pakistan's squad is neither inexperienced nor raw, but undercooked and rusty: since April 2007, Australia have played 45 ODIs against top-flight nations and Pakistan just over half, with 24. But for the players, says Younis, the series is a golden opportunity. "Any guy who takes the opportunity here and does well, it'll be a massive break for them internationally. This is how I am looking at it personally and trying to instill in the team. I am fairly sure they are aware of it. If as a player you take off in this series, nobody will be able to bring you down."

Mumbai Indian beaten to Chennai kings

Tendulkar carried his bat, slamming an unbeaten 59 to help his side post 165 for seven.

Chennai made a good fist of the chase thanks to Matthew Hayden's 44, but fell short and eventually ended with 146 for seven.

After Mahendra Singh Dhoni had won the toss and asked Mumbai to bat, Sanath Jayasuriya and Tendulkar began briskly, tucking into opening pair of Manpreet Singh Gony and Thilan Thushara.

The two helped Mumbai reach 27 in just four overs, forcing Dhoni into a bowling change which saw the introduction of Andrew Flintoff.

The England all-rounder almost struck in his first over when Tendulkar looked to have edged the ball, but Hayden at first slip failed to hold on to a straightforward take.

Inside the IPL 2009

As the stage is set for the commencement of the second edition of the Indian Premier League on Saturday, my mind goes back to exactly a year ago when the IPL was launched amidst unprecedented fanfare and high expectations.

The concept itself was unique, what with the public auction of players, the introduction of franchisees and the keen involvement of film stars, flamboyant industrialists and big business houses.

The money associated with the event was the eye rubbing and mind boggling variety. They were detractors who scoffed at the concept and said that nothing could compare with countries vying with each other

4th ODI v South Africa at Port Elizabeth - Apr 13, 2009

Two more matches and a long and fascinating summer that has been played out between South Africa and Australia will be at an end. One more victory and South Africa will finish on a high. They took a 2-1 lead in Cape Town and can wrap up the ODI series with a win in Port Elizabeth. However, after such an evenly-fought few months it might be fitting to be locked at 2-2 heading to the final match at the Wanderers, where the two sides rewrote the limited-overs record books with the 438 match three years ago. But first things first: Australia must win the day game in Port Elizabeth to keep alive their hopes of a series win and of regaining the No. 1 ODI ranking that began a couple of weeks ago in South African hands and has alternated through the series.

India vs New Zealand 3rd Test Live streaming Day 5

There was a world record for Rahul Dravid and four wickets before tea but a combination of bad light and an obdurate fifth-wicket partnership held up India's victory charge at the Basin Reserve after they had set New Zealand a target of 617. Zaheer Khan and Harbhajan Singh took two wickets apiece and New Zealand's hopes of surviving into the final day rested largely with Ross Taylor, who played some swashbuckling strokes on his way to 69. He added 83 with James Franklin to rebuild the innings, and when played was called off 21 overs early, the draw remained a viable option. Earlier, India had batted till drinks in an extended 150-minute morning session, adding 85 to their overnight score of 349 for 5
It was the third wicket that India took in the session, and as has so often been the case in recent times it was Zaheer who did all the early damage. He bowled 15 overs unchanged either side of lunch, and troubled every batsmen with his pace and angle. Tim McIntosh struggled again, before an edge to third slip shortly before lunch sparked off loud celebrations. It was Dravid's 182nd catch, one better than Mark Waugh, and the ball received a grateful kiss once it had settled into the hands

Indian bowlers who have the distinction of claiming five or more wickets in an innings thrice in New Zealand. They are Erapalli Prasanna and now Zaheer Khan. Zaheer achieved the feat with figures of five for 29 at Hamilton, five for 53 at Wellington – both in 2002 - and now five for 65 at Wellington.
6 – Number of catches taken by Mahendra Singh Dhoni in New Zealand’s first innings is the highest by an Indian wicket keeper. It surpassed the previous best of five catches held by Syed Kirmani, Nayan Mongia and Dhoni himself. Further, it also equals Indian record for the most dismissals in an innings that he now shares with Kirmani who had grabbed five catches and effected a stumping against New Zealand at Christchurch in 1976.

33 – Number of times Chris Martin has remained not out in his 48-match career with his latest unbeaten innings of four runs. He equaled the New Zealand record for the most unbeaten innings in a career, a record he now shares with yet another fast bowler Ewan Chatfield who had set the mark in his 43-Test career.

India vs New Zealand 3rd test lead at 233 Runs

That's the end of Day 2 and it's safe to say that it has been all India. After being bowled out early for 379, they made good inroads into the Kiwi batting lineup with Zaheer leading the charge to bowl them out for a paltry 197. Harbhajan picked up 3 good wickets as well. After grabbing a healthy lead of 182, India came out and negotiated 16 overs and made 51 runs with the loss of Virender Sehwag's wicket who succumbed to a peach of a delivery from Chris Martin. Gambhir and Dravid are looking solid out there and with three whole days to go, India will be looking at a big target to set for the hosts. The lead at the moment is 233. New Zealand will have to bowl out of their socks to get India out cheaply tomorrow and obtain a chaseable target. The visitors will be extremely satisfied and supremely confident of winning this game and the series 2-0. Do join us tomorrow for the third day's play.

Live streaming India vs New Zealand 3rd Test Day 2

The last pair of Ishant Sharma (15) and Munaf Patel (14) were together for the visitors at the close.

Harbhajan (pictured) scored 60 while Dhoni made 52 as the pair combined for a 79-run partnership to ensure the first day at the Basin Reserve ended in the balance after India had been reduced to 204 for six shortly into the final session.

The pair came together after Rahul Dravid, who had ground his way to 35, fell just after the tea break following New Zealand's capture of three wickets in the hour before tea to give them the advantage as they sought to level the Test series.

Dhoni and Harbhajan, however, threw caution to the wind, slashing at anything short with several shots sailing over the slips or just wide of the exasperated New Zealand fielders.

Harbhajan also had a lucky escape when Martin Guptill dropped a difficult chance in the gully when he was on 14.

Dhoni also appeared to be dropped by Daniel Flynn at cover point shortly after he reached 50, though his good fortune did not last long and he was caught in the deep by Iain O'Brien off a Tim Southee bouncer on the next ball.

Harbhajan, who brought up his 50 with two fours and a six off successive Daniel Vettori deliveries, continued to hit out until he mistimed a drive off Martin and caught by Vettori at mid-off.

Zaheer Khan, who had followed Harbhajan and Dhoni's swashbuckling lead, was dismissed for 33 with four overs remaining in the day's play as India scored 185 runs in 35 overs for the loss of four wickets in the final session.

Earlier, Virender Sehwag (48) and Gautam Gambhir (23) had been dismissed in quick succession before lunch after making an aggressive start, scoring 65 runs in the first hour.

Sehwag had stroked seven boundaries and a six before he nicked an O'Brien delivery through to wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum with the score on 73. Gambhir fell two runs later when he was trapped in front by James Franklin.

After lunch Sachin Tendulkar had brought up his 53rd Test half century, however, as he did in the second Test when he got two starts (49 and 64) but failed to push on. He was dismissed shortly after when he got an edge to wicketkeeper Brendon McCullum off Martin for 62.

India vs New Zealand 3rd test day 1 live streaming from wellington

HE INDIAN team got their first real taste of just how bitingly cold the Wellington wind could be on Wednesday during a morning practice session that was held, for the best part, in overcast conditions. If their spirits were dampened, the Indians did not show it, beginning with a typically boisterous warm-up session with football before moving to the cricket.

They did not take any chances, though, and multiple layers of clothing as well as woollen hand gloves and beanies to protect the head and ears from the chill were on display.

"Finally, it feels like we are in New Zealand," one of the cricketers joked soon after their session. "It is a little bit cold for the Indian guys, but yeah, we have adjusted pretty well," said coach Gary Kirsten. "As for the wind, we will have to see when we get out there. The wind does affect things, but the guys are looking forward to it. There has been talk about the third Test within our camp. We got a fair amount of rest watching the guys bat, so the bowlers are pretty keen to get out there."

Even Brendon McCullum felt the effects of the chill. "It's very cold," he said. "Very blustery and the sun hasn't really shone much. If we find it cold here, no doubt the Indians will be freezing. I am sure from their point of view, they will be hoping the wind dies down and the sun comes out; from ours, it will be great to have them on the park when the conditions are like this. I am sure we are going to find the conditions a little bit more pleasurable than they are.

Father versus SonNew Zealand Cricket has developed a unique initiative where promising schoolboy cricketers take on former greats in order to gain exposure. This has come with a sweet twist as left-arm spinner Harry Wright will play for a Gilette Cup Elite Schoolboys squad against a Wanderer's XI that includes John Wright.

Former New Zealand stalwart and erstwhile India coach John's son Harry goes to school in Wellington and will have a crack a team that includes his father and other former internationals like Simon Doull.

India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Day 3 Watch streaming

At stumps on the second day at McLean Park, the second Test between these two sides carried an ominously one-sided look. On a dodo-dead pitch, India were hammered to the tune of 619 for 9 - only the third time New Zealand have crossed 600 - after which they lost their openers to utterly irresponsible shots. The script was written by New Zealand on a lifeless track and the central characters were Jesse Ryder, with a maiden double-century, Brendon McCullum, with a stroke-filled ton of his own, and Daniel Vettori, who followed a half-century with two wickets before stumps.

As on day one, partnerships were again the secret of New Zealand's accomplishment on such a track. Ryder added 121 in the morning with James Franklin, then a more sedate 62 with McCullum, after which McCullum and Vettori put on 128 to utterly flounder India. It all appeared a touch too easy for New Zealand, and India didn't seem to have a plan.

India had been frustrated in the first session, but what really flattened them was the interval between lunch and tea. After Ryder was bowled the delivery after raising an excellent double - the first since Stephen Fleming's 262 against South Africa in 2006 - McCullum piled the pain on a cumbersome India and continued an exemplary day's work for the hosts.

The sight of McCullum striding to the middle at 415 for 5 can demoralise the best of sides. Timing the ball with fluency from the start, he kept the tempo by cutting Munaf Patel for four, and then did the same to Harbhajan Singh. Hardly allowing himself time to soak in the magic of his 201, Ryder was bowled next ball attempting an expansive drive. It was truly a splendid innings and if India thought it was a window to break through, they were mistaken

Wi vs Eng 2nd Odi Live streaming

Former England captain Michael Vaughan has backed Andrew Strauss to lead England during the Ashes this year despite the team's lack of success since he took over from Kevin Pietersen. England lost the five-Test series against West Indies 1-0, were beaten in the Twenty20 international, and are currently level at 1-1 in the five ODI series.

"I believe Strauss is the right man and a very, very good leader," Vaughan told Sky Sports. "I hope he is going to be captain for the Ashes and well beyond that, because he creates stability about the team. We just have to get that winning momentum back to the team. It will just happen, as long as they keep doing the right things." Vaughan stepped down as England captain during the home series against South Africa in 2008 and has since been out of the Test team.

Strauss also found a supporter in Andrew Flintoff, who said the captain was probably England's "best player". "Straussy has just scored a hundred in his last one-day international and probably was our best player," Flintoff said. "Straussy is our captain - he is the one that tosses the coin and leads the team out on the field and long may that continue."

Flintoff also backed Andy Flower, who stepped in as England coach on a temporary basis after Peter Moores was removed following the row with Pietersen. Flintoff said Flower should not be blamed for England's poor results in the West Indies.

Live streaming India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Day 2 From Napier

Sehwag said he was not surprised by New Zealand's revival.

"We knew it was a good track (even) at 23 for three, and that someone will get a hundred here," Sehwag said.

Taylor's innings of 262 minutes and 204 balls was still the foundation of New Zealand's strong position at stumps on day one. He had come to the crease when New Zealand was in the throes of its early collapse and was the first batsman to offer resistance to India's attack.

"I think I was a bit more nervous than normal," Taylor said. "I haven't had a score for a while in the test arena so I was happy to get one today.

"I put a lot of pressure on myself with goals and high standards and the way I've played over the last few months hasn't lived up to those standards. This wasn't the best hundred I've got but it was good to get there."

Taylor praised Ryder's contribution.

"A lot credit has to go to Jesse," he said. "I think he played outstandingly well and to still be there, after over six hours, he's been great.

"He played a big part in my innings today. He kept me going and I have to thank him."

Ryder and Taylor batted for more than two full sessions to change the course of the opening day and to answer captain Daniel Vettori's call on batsmen to occupy the crease for long periods.

It was a message lost on New Zealand's top order as Tim McIntosh was out, unluckily, for 12, Jamie How for 1 and Martin Guptill for 8.

Ryder unbeaten on 137 at stumps

Taylor and Ryder were thrown together in only the 11th over Thursday, with New Zealand's innings in collapse at 23 for three. They pursued their partnership for the next 58.2 overs to lift the home side to 294-4 before Taylor was out for 151.

The partnership was the highest by a New Zealand pair for all wickets against India, beating 231, and the highest for New Zealand's fourth wicket against all nations, beating the previous mark of 241.

Ryder was unbeaten on 137 at stumps, having batted more than seven hours for his second century in consecutive tests after his 102 at Hamilton, where India won by 10 wickets.

Taylor's century was his first in five tests, since his 115 against Australia at Brisbane in November, and came within 18 runs of his highest score of 169, made against England at Old Trafford 10 months ago.

Taylor struggled to curb his aggressive nature and offered chances throughout his innings before finally lofting an attempted sweep to Yuvraj Singh on the square leg boundary off Harbhajan Singh in the final session.

Ryder, in contrast, played a composed and technically expert innings, limiting his scoring shots to precise and predetermined areas and offering few opportunities to the fielding side.

India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was ruled out of the match Thursday with a back injury, handing the captaincy to Virender Sehwag who led India for only the second time in a test.

Sehwag said he was not surprised by New Zealand's revival

India vs New Zealand 2nd Test Live streaming

Wherever you go in New Zealand, as soon as they come to know you are from India and are here for the cricket, a question comes up, "So how many days will your team take this time? Three? Four?" It's all banter that goes the other way too, but it always starts with how weak the New Zealand team is. Daniel Vettori, the New Zealand captain, knows the public deserves better than what happened in Hamilton, a tame defeat in four days. It's not the loss that hurts them as much, but the manner in which they lost.

"They [public] want results, just like we want results," Vettori said on the eve of the Napier Test. "They probably need to see the New Zealand team to come out and fight. The big thing about the New Zealand public is that as long as they see the New Zealand cricket side fight for a result - doesn't matter if there is a hard-fought win or a hard-fought loss, I think they are satisfied. The performance we put together in Hamilton wasn't consistent with that." In Napier they need to put a fight to keep the series alive. In the last 20 years, New Zealand have been on the wrong side of a dead rubber at home only twice.

New Zealand have been working hard over the last four days, in the nets, in the gym and on their mental make-up. The target is pretty clear

IPL to be Chamged in South Africa

South Africa has edged out England to be named host nation of the 2009 IPL. The decision was made after a meeting between the IPL commissioner, Lalit Modi, and the Cricket South Africa (CSA) chief executive, Gerald Majola, in Johannesburg on Tuesday. The IPL also announced that a final schedule for the 59 matches and the host venues for the eight franchises will be released shortly.

Cricinfo understands that the IPL's opening ceremony will be held in Cape Town, and that the defending champions Rajasthan Royals will play the first game. The tournament will commence on April 18, a week later than initially scheduled, and a day after the one-day series between South Africa and Australia ends. Sources said Johannesburg, Durban, Centurion, Port Elizabeth, East London and Cape Town would be the host venues.

However, it's understood that negotiations between the two boards were not as smooth as it was initially expected with England remaining in contention as an active alternative for hosting the IPL during most of Tuesday afternoon's meeting.

1st Test India vs New Zealand Day 4 Live Streaming

The hosts were 75 for three in the second innings, 166 runs behind India who were bowled out just before the tea break for 520 in reply to New Zealand's 279.

New Zealand made a disastrous start to their second innings with opener Tim McIntosh controversially caught at first slip by Tendulkar off the third ball for a duck.

Television replays suggested the ball may have bounced just in front of Tendulkar before he closed his hands around the ball. The 35-year-old Tendulkar immediately left the field to receive treatment to his hand.

New Zealand coach Andy Moles said he thought the catch should have been referred to the third umpire.

"You all saw the TV shots, it's fair to say we're surprised it wasn't referred," Moles told reporters.

Tendulkar, however, disagreed.

"I have the seen replays and I have seen my fingers under the ball," he said.

"Sometimes on camera it looks different. I was pretty much confident otherwise I would not have appealed for it."

Debutant Martin Guptill (48) and Daniel Flynn combined for a 68-run second wicket stand before Guptill threw his wicket away in sight of his first test half century when he smashed a Harbhajan Singh half volley to Virender Sehwag.

New Zealand's crisis deepened when night watchman Kyle Mills, who lasted 19 balls in the fading light, was trapped in front by Munaf Patel for two on the last ball of the day.

Flynn was left on 24 not out and will be joined at the crease on Saturday by Ross Taylor with New Zealand's last three specialist batsmen in Flynn, Taylor and Jesse Ryder needing to bat the entire day to avoid a heavy loss within four days.

"We find ourselves in a very difficult position," Moles said.

"We've been outplayed for the first three days and we've got to make sure we show a bit more character over the next two.

"We've under-performed, we dropped four catches, there were balls in the outfield we should have cut off.

"It's not a very good advert for the test team so far in this game."

Tendulkar had anchored India's powerful batting line up to an imposing total.

Resuming on 278 for four, just one run behind New Zealand's first innings, Yuvraj Singh (22) was the only wicket to fall in the morning session when he shouldered arms to a Chris Martin delivery and was bowled.

Tendulkar and captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni combined for a century stand until the afternoon session before Dhoni was caught behind by Brendon McCullum for 47 when an Iain O'Brien bouncer brushed his gloves.

To say the forthcoming Test series between India and New Zealand will be challenging for the home side would be a huge understatement. If everything plays out as suspected, it could be 15 long days of leather-chasing for the New Zealand players.

Dravid defended as methodically as ever, but it wasn't all dour stuff. He cut the ball beautifully and the run-rate didn't suffer after Gambhir's departure. Another stroke past point off Mills took him to a half-century from 108 balls and when he followed it with a lovely cover-drive off O'Brien, things were looking ominous. But O'Brien had the final say, getting one to nip back a shade off the seam and hit the top of off stump.

Galle, Perth, Trent Bridge, Johannesburg, Kingston, Rawalpindi, Multan, Adelaide, Headingley, Port-of-Spain, and Kandy. The venues of India's memorable overseas victories in the 21st century include all but one of the major Test nations. New Zealand remains the only country in which India have not won a Test since they became competitive away from the subcontinent. India's solitary Test-series success in New Zealand was four decades ago, their last Test triumph here was in 1976, and their last tour in 2002-03 ended in a disastrous 2-0 rout. Mahendra Singh Dhoni's men created history over the last two weeks by winning their first ever one-day series in New Zealand, and another such opportunity lies ahead of them.

The five one-dayers were largely about batsmen trying to hit the ball over the tiny boundaries at New Zealand's small grounds for 50 overs, while the bowlers strove to limit the damage. The Tests, however, require a more durable approach and India's batting has been bolstered by the inclusion of Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. Both of them have had match practice by playing State Championship matches - Dravid even scored a century for Canterbury - and will temper a batting line-up whose biggest pitfall could be a hangover from the six-a-minute one-day internationals.

New Zealand Cricket Board declained broadcaster

The New Zealand board has declined an Indian broadcaster's request to start the Test in Hamilton at noon instead of the traditional 11am after discussions with the teams and match officials. Multi Screen Media Pvt Ltd (formerly Sony Entertainment Television) had approached New Zealand Cricket with the request as it wants to maximise its viewership in India. If the start had been pushed back, the Test would have begun at 4.30 am in India, as opposed to 3.30 am.

The starting times for the second and third Tests, to be played in Napier and Wellington, haven't been finalised yet.

New Zealand Cricket chief executive Justin Vaughan was quoted by the Dominion Post as saying negotiations with the Indian board and Sony led to a "very amicable outcome". He said Test start times were normally set in concrete months ago but there had been a recent change in leadership at Sony and with it some new ideas on the table.

Champions Trophy in South Africa

The ICC board has endorsed a recommendation by its Chief Executives' Committee hold this year's Champions Trophy in South Africa. The ICC said that the event, which runs from September 24-October 5, would be held in Johannesburg and Centurion.

However, the ICC admitted that Cricket South Africa (CSA) has been sought as the alternative host, with the Wanderers and SuperSport Park as the venues, provided an agreement on the financial arrangements can be reached. CSA will now have to confirm whether it accepts the event's revenue model.

The ICC president David Morgan described the move as a "sensible decision" and thanked the boards of Sri Lanka and South Africa for their commitment. "I think the board has made a sensible decision that will give the event every chance of success," he said. "We now have clarity on the subject and we can make firm plans for what is going to be a great spectacle of ODI cricket.

India vs New Zealand 5th odi From Auckland

New Zealand's bemused bowlers play a dead rubber in Auckland on Saturday that has a lot at stake for them. A win will help them restore some credibility, Daniel Vettori had said minutes after Virender Sehwag smote his side into submission in Hamilton on Wednesday.

It was the bowlers who made New Zealand change their preferred one-day international approach: chasing almost every time on winning the toss. The last 10 times they had won the toss before the Hamilton match, they opted to chase on eight occasions. They just didn't want Virender Sehwag to make first use of flat conditions. Or Sachin Tendulkar. Or MS Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh or Gautam Gambhir. Or even Yusuf Pathan. The New Zealand bowlers need to find a way, quickly.

"I think we bowled a little bit better than we have, but it wasn't good enough to compete against him [Sehwag]," Vettori said after the last match. "It was just poor execution, and I don't think there is any excuse for the performance."

Virender Sehwag blasted India's fastest ODI hundred

Virender Sehwag blasted India's fastest ODI hundred as the visitors swept to a comprehensive win that secured their maiden one-day series triumph in New Zealand. Sehwag reached three-figures off 60 balls with a signature six and his awe-inspiring hitting overshadowed Gautam Gambhir's near run-a-ball half-century. Daniel Vettori and the rest of the New Zealand bowlers were powerless in the face of the onslaught and what had seemed a challenging target was chased down with ridiculous ease. Even the two stoppages due to rain couldn't stem the run-deluge with Sehwag completing his century as early as the 18th over.

Astonishingly, only five runs came behind square on the off side, generally Sehwag's favourite hitting area. But the batsman still displayed his range of strokes in one Iain O'Brien over, hitting four fours off five balls: a powerful pull to midwicket, a drive that nearly took the bowler's head off, a whip off his pads and a pull-drive over mid-on to a short delivery.

In an innings filled with scintillating strokeplay, Sehwag was at his most murderous when play resumed following a rain break at the 10-over mark. With intermittent showers holding up play at regular intervals, Sehwag decided to make sure there was an early finish - in a five-over period, starting from the 12th over, he moved from 52 to 92. The high backlift showed his intentions as he set about dismantling O'Brien, Ewen Thompson and Jacob Oram. Only Daniel Vettori's intelligent variations of pace managed to draw a measure of respect from Sehwag.

India vs New Zealand 3rd odi Christchurch

Both India and New Zealand have entertainers in their batting line-ups but the rainy weather in Napier and Wellington ensured that their performances were curtailed. The first ODI was a one-sided 28-over game, which India won by 53 runs, and the second got no further than 28.4 overs. Sunday's forecast says there's a 20% chance of precipitation in Christchurch. Hopefully it will leave enough time to squeeze in a 50-over contest.

India opened their tour with a Twenty20 international at the AMI Stadium, and their batsmen perished as they tried to take advantage of the short square boundaries. However, their approach in the one-day games has been more methodical and it is their intent which will worry New Zealand. Before the second ODI was ruined by rain, Sachin Tendulkar merely rotated strike while Virender Sehwag attacked viciously. However, Tendulkar seamlessly shifted to a higher gear and bore the responsibility of scoring quickly after Sehwag's dismissal. India have also kept New Zealand guessing about the No. 3 position: they sent in Gautam Gambhir in Wellington after Mahendra Singh Dhoni had been promoted in Napier.

indian batsman very strong then India will again be without the injured Ishant Sharma. But it is their batting that hurt New Zealand in the first game. As they did in Sri Lanka, India have continued to shuffle the batting order. Dhoni came in at No 3 in the last game and if you believe Sehwag, New Zealand were caught unawares wondering if Dhoni had come to pinch hit or bat as a regular No. 3. The Indians are incredibly confident but occasionally, as happened during the Twenty20, they become complacent. The twin losses may actually have done India a lot of good. As expected, India shrugged off the Twenty20 aberration to hand New Zealand a heavy defeat in the first ODI. The hosts have to do all the running now. The pitch looks slow and is not expected to assist seam movement. Virender Sehwag has already said that if India's batting clicks, they can score 300 in every game. Even so, New Zealand couldn't have chosen a better venue to level the series. It's their favourite venue and Daniel Vettori said his players feel very comfortable playing here

Sangakkara's wicket was a vital moment for Kaneria. He began to test the batsmen - Thilan Samaraweera in particular - with series of legbreaks, occasional googlies, and the odd slider delivered from the front of the hand. Samaraweera, however, was up to the task and grew in confidence, producing a whippy on-drive against Kaneria and another drive through cover off Arafat. As Samaraweera grew in composure, Kaneria started losing his and began to deliver a boundary ball every over.

Kaneria changed tack in the last session, going round the stumps in an effort to frustrate the batsmen. It nearly worked as Samaraweera skied a slog-sweep and then edged between the wicketkeeper and a wide first slip. Samaraweera, nicknamed Mr Glue for a Test strike-rate of 43.96, put those lapses past him and began playing straight again. The pitch and the match situation demanded he raise his game and he did so, allowing Jayawardene to drop anchor. He reached his hundred with a lofted stroke over mid-off against Shoaib Malik.

Among the Pakistan seamers, Arafat stood out for his consistently tight line and length. He repeatedly got the new ball to cut in and also to hold its line and combination almost worked. In the first session, he hit Sangakkara's back leg with a delivery that cut from leg stump towards off but the appeal was turned down by the umpire. Sangakkara, on 43 then, was lucky to get away. Arafat also found reverse-swing with the older ball, though his lack of pace made it hard to breach the batsman's defences.

Gul and Sohail were guilty of erring in length. They overused the tactic of peppering Warnapura with bouncers initially and then tried to compensate by pitching too full. Warnapura took

Sri Lanka Great Perforfance Of the First Day In Test Match

On a warm day in Karachi, when Test cricket returned to Pakistan after 16 months, the Sri Lankan top order indulged themselves to reach a strong position by the end of the opening day. Mahela Jayawardene presented a visual treat, Thilan Samaraweera and Kumar Sangakkara accumulated steadily, and Malinda Warnapura thrilled with a breezy knock as the visitors cashed in after winning the toss on a perfect batting pitch.

There is something extremely graceful about Jayawardene's batting. Perhaps, it's the economy of movement, his ease, and the languid flow of his bat's movement that catches the eye. There was a delicious straight drive on the up off Umar Gul today that captured his innings in a nutshell. The ball landed short of a length outside the off stump. Sachin Tendulkar, or even Sangakkara, imparts velocity to such deliveries with a fierce thump at the point of impact, whereas Virender Sehwag would rely on tremendous bat speed. Jayawardene seems to just caress his shots. Today, he waved his bat forward to meet the ball with the middle and it sped away. Just like that. And he did it repeatedly through his innings to compile his first Test hundred against Pakistan, the only country missing from his list of centuries.

Sri Lanka danger Postion In Odi Series

It's been a demoralising series for Sri Lanka, but they need to pick themselves up for Sunday's final game to avoid their first-ever whitewash in a five-match contest. Mahela Jayawardene hasn't been able to do much to arrest the slide. He tinkered with the bowling combination in the previous two games but Sri Lanka still leaked in excess of 300 in both matches. His hands have been tied as far as the batting line-up is concerned - the four senior batsmen and the promising Thilina Kandamby being undroppable, leaving little room for personnel changes.

Winning the toss could be one way he can help - the spinners have had plenty of assistance when they bowl second at the Premadasa but Muttiah Muralitharan and Ajantha Mendis haven't had the chance to bowl under lights.

India are on their longest winning streak in one-day internationals but have to watch out for complacency. One motivation for them is that if Australia beat New Zealand on Sunday, and India lose, they will slip back to No. 3 in the rankings.

L Balaji recalled to the Indian team

L Balaji has been recalled to the Indian team, and will replace Munaf Patel in Sri Lanka. Munaf sustained a groin injury and was forced to return home after the second ODI.

Balaji last played for India in an ODI in 2005 in Sri Lanka before a stress fracture forced him out of the game. He returned to first-class cricket this season after a back surgery and a remodelled action. He was instrumental in taking Tamil Nadu into the semi-finals with 36 wickets from seven games at 17.50. His comeback to cricket started in the first season of the IPL, where his 11 wickets in nine games for Chennai Super Kings included a hat-trick.

Munaf, who will head to the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for rehabilitation, had an MRI scan done on Sunday, which revealed the injury. "He won't be fit anyway till February 8 so we are not taking any chances and are sending him back," Prakash Dixit, the Indian team manager, said.

New Zealand tour on Australia Ponting won the toss and batted as Australia try to regain the top spot from South Africa during the five-game Chappell-Hadlee Series. Australia lost 4-1 to South Africa after a defeat at the WACA on Friday but have an immediate chance to repair the damage against New Zealand.

If they win they will grab back the No. 1 ranking they lost two days ago, but New Zealand, the No. 4 outfit, have been boosted by Brendon McCullum taking the gloves. McCullum has recovered from a hip problem, which restricted his wicketkeeping, and will have two spinners to deal with.

Daniel Vettori, the captain, will have support from Jeetan Patel on a surface that usually assists the fast men. "Over the last few years it seems a good place for spinners," Vettori said.

India win by 15 runs in 2nd odi sries

Thilina Kandamby almost masterminded a great escape for Sri Lanka, but just fell short in the face of Ishant Sharma, who kept his nerve and struck three crucial blows in the last 10 overs of a thrilling chase.

India's 256 was at least 30 short of what they would have expected after a fiery start, but half-way through Sri Lanka's innings it seemed they had shot over by at least 30. Kandamby had other ideas, though, stringing together a 100-run partnership with Mahela Jayawardene from 36 for 3, and smaller crucial ones with the lower order to take the match into the last over. Coming into the match Kandamby had scored 171 runs in eight matches, with one prior half-century, and ended unbeaten on 93 today.

After all three Indian pace bowlers had struck a blow in the first eight overs, slicing open the line-up, Jayawardene and Kandamby had no choice but to consolidate and rely on the death overs to make up for the slow run-rate. The asking-rate crossed six in the 19th over, and seven in the 30th over, but the two kept their cool. There were extremely quiet spells during their partnership: early on in the Powerplays they went through a 34-ball span where they scored only eight runs; in the middle overs they spent 88 balls without hitting a boundary.

4th ODI south Africa v Australia at Adelaide - Jan 26, 2009
Match scheduled to begin at 13:45 local time (03:15 GMT)
Australia must win on their national holiday to keep the five-match series alive following another nerveless chase from South Africa in the third game in Sydney on Friday night. Apart from the 2-1 disadvantage, the most troubling thing for the hosts is that they don't feel safe with any total. South Africa have been stunning during their pursuits of 271 in Melbourne and 269 at the SCG, and the only time they fell short was in the five-run defeat in Hobart.

Bangladesh were guided by patient knocks from Mehrab Hossain jnr and Raqibul Hasan, both of whom put a price on their wickets and batted sensibly. Mehrab, returning to his former role as an opener, scored 43 off 85 balls while Raqibul remained unbeaten on 52.

Australia vs South Africa Odi Level of The Series

JP Duminy and Neil McKenzie set up South Africa's sixth win from six ODIs against Australia at the MCG before Albie Morkel finished the job with a magnificent unbeaten 40 from 18 balls. The loss of McKenzie and Duminy left South Africa in big trouble as they needed 50 from six overs with three wickets in hand, but Morkel and Johan Botha used the batting powerplay to perfection to get them home with three balls to spare.

The powerplay was taken at the start of the 45th over and Morkel used it to destroy Australia, particularly Ben Hilfenhaus, with four fours and a six. They picked up 51 from the powerplay and it was a frenetic end to a chase that had meandered through the middle overs, when Duminy showed more self-control than some Trappist monks, as he compliled 71 without a boundary.

Pakistan vs srilanka Odi Series

Salman Butt and Shoaib Malik helped Pakistan absorb the pressure of quick wickets at the start, but both fell at the half-way mark during the run-chase. The 108-run partnership between the pair raised Pakistan's hopes, but their exit put Sri Lanka firmly in control of the game.

Muttiah Muralitharan, brought into the attack in the 22nd over, struck the vital blow in his second over, removing Malik with a doosra that spun and bounced to get the edge. Sanath Jayasuriya struck in the next over as Butt chipped a leading edge to cover. ri Lanka had Kamran Akmal not given more ammunition to his critics. Kandamby was on 16 when he stabbed a Shahid Afridi slider but Akmal dropped it. Kandamby went on to pick his singles and two in a calm manner to ensure the score kept moving. Akmal later sought redemption with a sharp, low catch to his right to get rid of Jayawardene.

Pakistan vs Srilanka odi Series

The hastily arranged series against Sri Lanka is just what Pakistan cricket needs: it quenches their fans' thirst for high-quality cricket, it should ease the board's massive financial problems and will hopefully shift the focus from a spate of controversies surrounding the country's cricket in the past few months (emphasised by the ludicrous situation of the board potentially facing a lawsuit from their own legal advisor).
Both sides enter the contest in impressive ODI form - Sri Lanka have lost only five of their past 20 games, and Pakistan have done even better, winning all but three of the previous 21 matches - but the numbers are significantly boosted by the spate of matches they have played against weak opposition.
As with the build-up to every series since his debut, this one has seen much of the talk centre on mystery spinner, Ajantha Mendis, who recently became the quickest bowler to 50 ODI wickets. The compressed contest, three matches to be played in five days, leaves Pakistan's batsmen little time to reassess their strategy against him during the series. They have prepared to counter his threat by practising on shorter pitches but they aren't the only batting unit entering the series with worries.
Sri Lanka have breached the 200-run mark only once in their last eight games, all of which were against the unthreatening bowling attacks of Zimbabwe and Bangladesh. Their captain Mahela Jayawardene has demanded improvement from his batsmen and, given the form he is in - averaging 8.33 in his last nine innings - he needs to set the example.
